Not easy to figure out. Cited from "Laney/Puts: Leica Hand Book" there are three versions of the Summilux 35 mm:

Summilux-M 1:1.4, Serial # 1,730,001—unknown.
Filter: E41, later VII

Summilux-M 1:1.4
aspherical
, Serial # 3,459,071—unknown.
Filter: E46

Summilux-M 1:1.4
ASPH
, Serial # 3,636,101—unknown.
Filter: E46

Understanding your question correctly the lens is one of the first row. Being a titanium version Leica’s order # should be 11860. Could you confirm this already? If I’m right with this I can give you another information from the same book:

"The second series included later the titanium version."

These are strong indications that the filter will be VII. But unless you get a photo showing the engraved filter size or the lens itself I would wait orderung the filter.

You will need either a series VII filter or an E48 (slim) filter. Both fit into the original 12504 hood consisting of two pieces that can be unscrewed to insert a filter.

I went with the 48mm filter inside the hood. It rattles around in there just a bit (it won't fall out, however). I'm sure there are ways to take away that tiny bit of play, but it's never really bothered me enough to seek them out.

What's the difference between the series 7 and the E48 IR filter? I need some education...

The series 7 is not threaded. It's held in place by the hood, which separates into two pieces (the filter is sandwiched between those two pieces)

The 48mm filter is threaded.

The series 7 is much less common, and is quite a bit more expensive. That's why many of us use the 48/49mm filter options. There is no difference in performance.

IAlso, note that your Summilux may foul the Leica M8 lens throat, and may need the shroud protecting the rear element to be modified

Indeed it may, both Leica and people such as Malcolm Taylor in the UK can make the necessary modification. Not all lenses are affected.

If you put a standard 49mm filter in the lens hood the "correct" way round the lens hood doesn't screw back together fully, but being aluminium if binds on the filter, is secure and the filter doesn't rattle about.

I use a 49 mm filter in mine, insert in backwards and works just perfect.

Mine is the Titanium version, there are no threads on it. You use the filter in the hood holder. Mine also does not foul, or get into the way of the metering, it is a German version. I'm pretty sure all titanium summilux' have no issues with the M8.

Does using the 12524 or 12526 (the lens hood for the 35mm summicron) cause vignetting problems on an M9? I can imagine it works well on an M8 and the few tests(I have both pre-asph cron and lux) I've run shows improvement on my M8. But how about on a M9?

And a question for the guys with the titanium: does your lens flare as badly as our lens. Really it's worst when the light is just out of the frame. For instance sitting at a table taking someone picture seated on the other side with a overhead hanging lamp just out of frame.

I'm just trying to get a feel for if there is a real difference in terms of flare with the titanium versions.

FWIW, I finally paid up and got Leica to make the mod to my lens so it would mount. The swapped out the entire rear shroud and replaced it.
