Hi,

I have a relatively new MP (a few months old or so). Just today I noticed when focusing on something with a heart shape on it, I was able to align the RF horizontally, but vertically it was a little off. Does this mean my RF needs to be adjusted? How likely is this to affect focus?

Thanks,

Jonathan

Yes.

Pretty unlikely. The vertical alignment is independent of the distance calibration. It's possible for a shock - e.g. dropping the camera - to knock both off at the same time, but it's also common to find very small errors in the vertical alignment that have no effect at all on focus. The test is whether the sharpest area in your pictures is where you intended it to be.

A vertical displacement will slow you down.

You can check the horizontal calibration of range finder and lens by focusing on a white cottage or TV broadcasting mast > 5km away.

The adjustment is not difficult, if there is only one error.
