markrune Posted January 21, 2010 Share #1 Posted January 21, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have an M8 with 50mm Sumitar (Coded) 90mm Tele Elmarit (Non Coded) and a 35 mm VM Color Skopar. To be honest the 50mm and 90mm are used 95% of the time and I always shoot RAW apart from EXIF data would there be any benefits to getting the other lenses coded. I use UV/IR filters on all the lenses, and have not noticed any problems. Thanks

mtomalty Posted January 21, 2010 Share #3 Posted January 21, 2010 I believe that the 50 and 90 mm focal lengths must be among those least affected by imaging problems that coding is designed to address The need for coding really increases towards the wider end of the focal length spectrum Mark Mark Tomalty Photography Montreal Canada Travel Landscape Stock FineArt
markrune Posted January 21, 2010 Author Share #4 Posted January 21, 2010 Thanks but can anyone tell me if RAW files get adjusted by the coding, I know correction goes on for JPEGS, but can not see if it has any effect on DNG files, the manual is not clear (or I acan not see it). Certainly pictures seem to be fine.
wstotler Posted January 21, 2010 Share #5 Posted January 21, 2010 Thanks but can anyone tell me if RAW files get adjusted by the coding. The 6-bit coding tells the M8 how much in-camera correction should be applied to the data before it is written into the RAW file. "After Leica applies all necessary corrections on the RAW data, such as vignetting correction and cyan correction, Leica then applies the Gamma LUT on the data." http://kammagamma.com/articles/solving-the-leica-m8-dng-riddle.php Personally, I'm really missing not having EXIF data written into the files with my uncoded lenses. Need to ship them off for CLA and coding. Thanks! Will
