Advertisement Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 Hi thepominlaw, Take a look here D-Lux 4 Safari. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Don Helmudo Posted January 21, 2010 Share #2 Posted January 21, 2010 I wouldn´t expect the interior of the safari-edition to be any different from the standard one. On the german Leica page it says that it´s surface is more resistant but it technical features are the same as for the normal D-Lux.
RRG Posted January 21, 2010 Share #3 Posted January 21, 2010 Greetings, i have a DL4 safari among my three DL4 cameras....the original leica leather case is quite nice but doesnt work with the hand grip.....artist and artisan make a great leather half case that has snaps above the strap attachment and accepts the grip... that i have for all my DL4 cameras...it comes in black or brown. i heard that leica is going to make a case that will accomodate the hand grip. you may also want to check out the accessories that richard franiec makes for the DL4. i would also recommend the viewfinder...with use you can use it far beyond its 24mm intent and can do a good job of estimating other focal lengths out to 60mm. nice to have the camera at the eye! the CF22 flash also works remakably well. finally, the safari comes with a kind of useful shoulder bag....however ,i use the billingham Pola stowaway for a single camera and accessories and the Billingham Alice/L2 bag for the two camera set up with accessories and extra batteries. excellent camera. best regards, robert
regedit Posted January 21, 2010 Share #4 Posted January 21, 2010 safari edition come bundled with a special case (like titanium edition) but since I have a regular one I cannot provide more details. anyway, enjoy your camera, and have fun on your safari with d-lux 4, even I think this camera is probably the worst choice on a real safari, when a verrrry long zoom it's a must to take a good picture of a lion

Lbird Posted January 22, 2010 Share #6 Posted January 22, 2010 I am not using the green Safari bag as I bought the Leica brown leather carry case which i find that more suitable when moving around.

Trying to find out a few more details about the case, only photos i can find are sales images not one showing its interior? May I ask why you preferred the khaki (sorry "safari") version ? As I chose the black, less conspicuous - much less expensive - identical innards, version.
rdash Posted January 25, 2010 Share #8 Posted January 25, 2010 It does look good on a safari, less obtrusive than Nikon set-up. Strongly recommend viewfinder for the "sundowner" shots. It's possible to get good close-ups of animals. Try securing camera to a monopod, fit remote release and use at ground level outboard safari vehicle. It gets an unusual POV, but ask the guide first!
