Really Right Stuff just notified me that my replacement baseplate with L Bracket has now shipped. I took the opportunity to order a couple more things from Really Right Stuff in the meantime. They are coming with my repacement items, RRS refunded the shipping in full for the returned items and charged me no additional shipping at all for the extra items which doubled my package size :)

Does anyone know the status of the Arca-Swiss bracket? It looked great, but I have not seen anything since a rumor site posted a photo several months ago.

Bob

B&H shipped mine yesterday after a 6-week wait. It was incorrectly routed to Canada and now sits there. If it is delivered tomorrow or Monday, I'll post my comments. I returned the RRS bracket for a refund. Beautifully made, but was not very usable.

I have the new Arca-Swiss bracket. It´s great! You can adjust it to different cameras and even use it as a normal camera plate. You can order it also here:

I had pre-ordered and received the Really Right Stuff baseplate and L bracket for my M9. As the fit on my camera was more snug than I preferred, I returned it under the voluntary recall arrangements. Today I received (in Australia) my replacement set. The fit is perfection on my camera with no discernible play when mounted and prior to locking. At the same time there is no difficulty at all in fitting nor removing the assembly from my camera. In contrast my original M9 baseplate and my older M8 base plate/grip have larger clearances and easily detectable lateral play on my camera before the lock is engaged. Using a vernier caliper I measured all of the items, including the returned first RRS base plate. Those measurements confirmed what I can easily feel when fitting the assembly to my M9.

I recommend the M9 version for any M9 or M8 owner. The sizing, although larger than the M8 only version is still smaller than the original Leica items for that camera too. That is to say it fits better with less play. Obviously if there is an M9 in your future you won't need to replace the plate when you change your camera.

I ordered mine today. I still need to figure out what to do with the strap.

Roy, if desired you can still fit the strap to camera's left hand lug after fitting the L Bracket. You need to detach the strap again if you want to remove the base plate/ L bracket though. There's a new lug provided on the top of the L Baracket as well. I guess a quick detach strap system would work. I generally have my camera in a bag (or in my hand of course) and it has only a wrist strap fitted on the opposite side.

Finally got my L plate with grip extension back from RRS. Now, it fits snuggly but at least it goes on! I added a piece of skateboard tape to the too smooth grip. Much better. Does add bulk and length but you have to expect that right? Highly recommended now!!

I've been using the re-configured RRS L-plate for about two weeks. It's a gem. I love the ease of use on a tripod.

My solution to the strap issue is to use a Y strap on the RRS plate. Since it only attaches to the left-side lug, I can leave it on when I remove the L-plate. I have a Black Rapid strap attached to the tripod mount on the original base plate so when I am not carrying a tripod, I can use the Black Rapid strap.

Now that RRS has available their newly modified bottom plate for the M9 I went ahead and ordered - took delivery yesterday. I ordered the grip along with the plate but not the L bracket. What an ergonomically great piece of engineering work! My hold on the camera is now very secure and, of course, the plate works extremely well with my RRS ball head and quick release clamp. Congratulations to Really Right Stuff on a nice piece of engineering work!
