Peter_S Posted January 20, 2010 Share #1 Â Posted January 20, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi! Â I am looking to buy a new small (10-12.1") laptop after my Sony TX850 stopped working. Does anybody have a recommendation for one that is OK for photo editing, up to the final printed product? I know it is not ideal on any laptop but I have to do this quite often. I felt the TX850 screen to be sufficiently good. I am now currently in particular looking at Panasonic Toughbook CF-T2 and Dell Latitude 420 (both refurbished). Â Any feedback is appreciated. Â Thanks, Peter

jackart Posted January 21, 2010 Share #2 Â Posted January 21, 2010 Dell Latitude D420 is fast and small. If You are not taking your notebook to rain and don't let it fall, Dell would be my favourite. I would check that laptop has at minimum 2GB of ram and at least 200GB of HDD. If less, I suggest to upgrade as first thing. Graphics card specs is not important when working in 2D only. proenca Posted January 21, 2010 Share #3  Posted January 21, 2010 Well, exact specs and which PC to buy Im afraid I cant chime in very well.  However, I can relate to my experience : I sometimes use my MacAir ( often and often these days ) to edit my M8 files, since to be honest, I dont have much time to sit for hours on front of my MacPRO during the week ( the desktop ) - so I usually load up the catalogs in the MacAir and do the selection there and then I end up doing the editing there as well.  Now few things :  The Air specs are : 2.13 ghz Intel Core Duo 2 2GB Ram 128gb SSD disk  Its fine for 10mp processing in Lightroom - speed is fast, not MacPRO league but perfectably acceptable.  It has a 13" screen and that is its main problem : while ok for selecting which candidate photo its a wee bit to small for serious editing.  If you using a 10" for that, hummm.. perhaps you can connect it to a larger , lets say 19" monitor ? If so, should be ok.  But 10" for editing up to print.. would drive me nuts to be honest.
Peter_S Posted January 22, 2010 Author Share #4 Â Posted January 22, 2010 Jackart & Proenca, Â thanks for your replies. I just found a used but as-new Sony Vaio TX850p here in Vancouver that I bought on the spot - I had that one before and it works for me. Just did not think I would find one that fast and easily. Â Cheers, Peter
