Samir Jahjah Posted January 18, 2010 Share #1 Posted January 18, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) The 24mm Summilux uses what Leica calls a System VII filter. I usually never put any filter on my M-glasses, but given that I will be spending some times in central africa, with rain and dust being quite common, I am decided to put UV filters...if only to make it easier to remove drops or dusts while shooting. I cannot find a place to order Filter type VII. Do you have any suggestions?
Advertisement Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 Hi Samir Jahjah, Take a look here What UV filter on the Summilux 24mm. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
doug_m Posted January 18, 2010 Share #2 Posted January 18, 2010 I bought a B + W series VII UV filter from B and H in NYC. Unfortunately it rattles around a bit in the 24 lux lens hood as compared to the Leica UV/IR that I obtained with an M8.2. So I use the UV/IR filter which has a tighter fit because I shoot with the M8.2 as well as the M9 and do not want to change filters only to have the annoying rattle. I have not found cyan corners with he UV/IR filter and the 24 lux despite the warnings about this issue. Hopefully the rattle is just a QA tolerance issue with my particular B + W filter, such that another one will have a tighter fit in the lens hood. What is the reference of the BW? I can't find it.
doug_m Posted January 18, 2010 Share #4 Posted January 18, 2010 Here is all of the reference info I I have. Also, I'm pretty sure -but not certain- I bought it at B and H. This info is directly on the box: SER 7 010M 11089 And this info is on a white sticker attached to the box: MCS7 / 66011089(REG SER-7 (MC) UVa HAZE #010 (2C) FILTER Good luck. doug_m Posted January 18, 2010 Share #5 Posted January 18, 2010 The box also says : MRC UV-HAZE FILTER I wonder if Leica makes one that may have a tighter fit so it won't rattle?
Samir Jahjah Posted January 19, 2010 Author Share #6 Posted January 19, 2010 The box also says : MRC UV-HAZE FILTER I wonder if Leica makes one that may have a tighter fit so it won't rattle? Thank you. I found it: it is pretty cheap. I am always reluctant to put glasses in front of Leica lens...on dry and dust-free weather, I will certainly remove it. I received the B+W UV Have 7, and it fits perfectly well!
doug_m Posted February 1, 2010 Share #9 Posted February 1, 2010 Hmm. No rattle at all? If so, that is good news for you and makes me wonder if mine is some how off spec. I hope you are enjoying the lens.
