rdesman Posted January 16, 2010 Share #1 Posted January 16, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I've noticed several sale ads noting this lens "with stopper". What's the "stopper"?. I've had one of these lenses for about 15 years and don't have the slightest idea what this is or what it's for. How embarrassing...
Advertisement Posted January 16, 2010 Posted January 16, 2010 Hi rdesman, Take a look here "Leica M 2,8/28mm Elmarit type 2. with stopper". I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
adan Posted January 17, 2010 Share #2 Posted January 17, 2010 Looks like it means an "infinity lock" - a small silver thumb-button set into the focusing tab that must be depressed to move the lens away from infinity. Useful for people who only shoot landscapes - a PITA (IMHO) otherwise and something that Leica dropped from the lenses around 1970. This particular item on Der Bay (370319946321) is labelled as "28 with stopper", and the silver crescent-moon inset in the end of the focus tab is visible in the snapshot. However, from the rear cap shown and the deepness of the rear element, I believe this item is actually a v.1 (pre-M5) 28. Personally, all the V.2 28's I've ever seen do NOT have the infinity lock - possibly some early v.2 lenses have it.
engelfangen Posted January 17, 2010 Share #3 Posted January 17, 2010 Hello, the lens on ebay is a v.2 Elmarit, it has the typical convex front element that the v1 doesn't have. Early Elmarits v.2 have the infinity stop. I find it even more useful the normal tab and I like it very much. When I put mine for sale two months ago nobody was interested, the last weeks I used it a lot and I decided not to sell it, it has such a nice cream in the pictures, even nicer than my 35mm Cron v1. Here is a photo of the infinity stop. best regards Marc
