today i got an email from leica where they mentioned 'the next update for the m8/m9'

 

"The new update should be available soon. Please watch our homepage for

the announcement."

 

everyone will have his own interpretation of the leica 'soon' word

I believe the menu additions will only effect the coding of the lens. You also need the mount that will pull up the 28mm frame line, which the menu options will not provide.

 

Hmm.. that would mean it'll still be a smart idea to use a template and black/white enamel to code the lens to avoid the hassle of changing the coding from the menu when swapping a lens.

 

Guess we'll have to wait and see :)

You can forget the white, only the black is necessary. Should make hand coding a bit simpler.

 

Most of the times yes, but there are lenses where there's a screw in place of a white dot. Those have been known to be interpreted as black by the cameras coding sensor. So, at times white is also necessary.

 

Well, that was a bit nit picking from my part but could be useful piece of info for someone not familiar with the procedure.
