Just received last night the second of my M 14 408 winders. Pristine condition just like the first. I know you're sitting back scratching your heads; a winder on an M? All I can say is that one they add a certain elegance. They offer the choice of 1 or 2 shots. You know that your M is always ready for action. The weight is negligible, only two, 123 lithium batteries in the grip. They help provide a better balance when I put on the M 75 f 1.4. I read just recently an article from a Leica guru, who found himself with one winder. He was so impressed he eventually put winders on all his Ms. and now wouldn't be without one.

I'm tempted to get one myself. Because I have both a M7 and a M8 I sometimes forget to wind on the film when using the M7 and if I am photographing shots which are time critical I've missed them because of this. It is hard to break habits so I was also thinking of getting a M winder.

The M 14408 is usually referred to as the Motor M to avoid confusing it with an earlier device which was actually termed an M Winder and is much larger. M Motors

The present Motor M has two speeds settings, I and II settings for single advance or continuous advance and is correctly termed a motor.

My M7's have Motor M's attached unless one has a Leicavit. I find the Motor M to be extremely useful with the M7 and in the I setting, only slightly nosier than the M7 with manual wind. For sequence shooting the Motor M far surpasses the Leicavit or manual winding.-Dick
