Dave Sutton Posted January 27, 2010 Share #21 Posted January 27, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just a comment on the actual failure noted: My M8 was showing the exact same symptoms. It is definately a shutter problem. started when cold, and then got worse and worse and worse. I hand-delivered it to Leica USA (I live in NJ), and dropped it off. Got a call the next day with an estimate for repair (no upgrade) for $450. I approved it on Thursday, and I got the camera back the following Thursday (1 week). Observations: The repaired shutter is quieter than it was when the camera was new. Firmware was latest version. Camera was spotless (cleaner than when dropped off), had a new quality-certificate attached, a new body cap (I did not give them one when I dropped it off), I was handed a beautiful Leica-marked leather wallet to carry 4 memory cards in as a little gift, and they found me a new lens cap for the lens I had in my bag when I picked up the body, also free. I call this excellent customer service. If you need help getting a camera in to Leica USA for repair, I'll be happy to assist. Dave Sutton ,

It has been "out of service" now for about 8 months. On one hand, I'm happy to have it back, on the other, I really am having fun with my film cameras again... I'll keep it for a while and hope that I soon am feeling like a "lost sheep has come home". :-) JohnS.
