I recentely posted a question about neon lines in highlight areas on files opened in LR2 from my M9. I have been shooting all compressed DNGs. I didnt have this problem when opening the files in RAW developer which I downloaded as a trial but do not own. I like using LR2 but this issue is really annoying. Is anyone else getting this using this combination? Here are some crops from a landscape. I am just curious what the problem is because if it's with the M9 I would like to have it fixed. Thanks to all

Sam

this just in... I tried developing the same photo in RAW Developer and I still got the same neon noise. Please help if you have seen this before. Is my camera a lemon? I though it seemed ok but this is ridiculous I can't go on correcting each photo in a hundred different places. Anyone?

Sam,

I have never seen this before, or at least, my M9 with raw files dumped to my MacBook do not display anything like this.

There were some chatter about something similar a while ago, it seemed to me that it was resolved by RE-importing the files using a newer version LR or similar. Not sure, that is just what I seem to recall, and definitely the answer seemed to involve re-importing the files. I do not recall what was deemed to have caused the funky highlights in the original import.

I too, had the same problem, using LR2 2.5. Thanks to this thread, I downgraded to 2.4, and the results are below (cropped image, Leica M9, pre-Intel Imac). I don't know enough about both versions of LR to comment much, but the older one seems very workable for my needs. Thanks to all for the info here.

The blown highlights in the first samples posted appear to have red showing in them. To me, this looks like a screen capture of a preview image with the highlight clipping made visible. You get blue warnings displayed on clipped darks too. If so, this red (or blue) is not present in the actual file. It is the prog warning you about clipping. Click on the small triangles at the histogram edges to turn this warning option off or on.

Currently Adobe recommends (for M9 owners) that LR2.6 be uninstalled (on a PC) and LR2.6RC (Release Candidate available as a free download) be installed instead. The reason is that a specific tone value combination in even a small number of pixels causes crashing due to a bug in LR2.6
