dana Posted January 11, 2010 Share #1 Posted January 11, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) My M8 will not power up anymore. At first I thought it was a battery issue. Recharged both batteries, and when I insert them a small red light blinks on and I get a message that the bottom of the camera is open. But when I try to turn on the camera nothing happens. Nicoleica Posted January 11, 2010 Share #2 Posted January 11, 2010 The open baseplate message should only appear if you turn the camera on whilst the baseplate is off. Are you saying that this happens before you turn the camera on? Also, when you say nothing happens, does the battery level and shots remaining lcd indicate anything, or is that blank too? Have tried the following:- Ensure that the camera is switched off. Remove the baseplate. Remove and re-insert the battery and the SD card. Replace the baseplate, ensuring that it is located correctly. Turn the camera back on, and then check for signs of life. (Top LCD, viewfinder LED display, back LCD display for playback, menu display etc. Shutter release.) Tried your suggestion, removing battery and SD card and reinserting, and no signs of life. The red LED lights when the battery is inserted, but i get nothing from the camera when i turn on the power. oronet commander Posted January 11, 2010 Share #6 Posted January 11, 2010 If I'm not wrong, the camera knows the baseplate is out because of a small pin in it, and the corresponding switch on the bottom of the camera, close to the area of the battery. Make sure that the pin on the left side of the body is in the slot on the baseplate opposite the locking knob.. I get your same massage when I have not seated the plate correctly. Guys even with the baseplate off the shot counter and battery meter light up. The shot counter reads 0 (zero), even with a empty SD card installed, and the battery meter read whatever charge the batter has. Buzz Kanter Posted January 12, 2010 Share #9 Posted January 12, 2010 I had a similar problem with my M8 a few weeks ago. The camera was working fine. Replaced the battery. The red light was on a second or three and then nothing. Dead! Luckily the camera is still under Leica warrantee so I sent it back and was told the circuit board blew out and was covered. dana Posted January 12, 2010 Author Share #10 Posted January 12, 2010 Now if i remove the battery and replace while the power is ON i can at least trip the shutter, but cannot access the menu or the playback functions. Maybe in another day it will just heal itself of all these quirks? I must say, having gone through at least a half dozen digital camera bodies in the last 5 years (that went thru much more abuse than my 2-year old M8 ever has).
