scc Posted January 10, 2010 Share #1 Posted January 10, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi all, I've not been able to find a definitive answer despite a search.. Can the hood be used on this lens when a filter is mounted? I've read some reports that the hood will not attach with some filters. Is there a specific filter brand or size that will allow the hood to be mounted? Appreciate any help, Cheers, Stuart

holgerf Posted January 10, 2010 Share #7 Posted January 10, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi Stuart I’m using the Leica UV/IR filter 55mm, no problem at all (part #13413). Best Holger
waileong Posted January 10, 2010 Share #8 Posted January 10, 2010 Normal filters fine, no vignetting. But note that with some filters, the hood cannot be mounted, eg thick polarisers.
wizard Posted January 10, 2010 Share #9 Posted January 10, 2010 I use mine with a B+W UV slimeline filter. Hood fits, too. Andy
hoppyman Posted January 10, 2010 Share #10 Posted January 10, 2010 Stuart as noted by others, most filters can be mounted and the hood clips over it onto the lens itself. It needs to be not a larger diameter but that should not be a problem. The Leica UV/IR filters are deeper than many standard filters (for example the excellent B+W range) but it definitely fits inside the hood (I've used it). A polariser would not fit, but that is a different situation and you would need to have no hood mounted to allow you to operate the polariser anyway. peter_n Posted January 10, 2010 Share #11 Posted January 10, 2010 I use a regular B+W E55 MRC UV filter on mine. Manufacturers product nr. 70216. It is a bit tight but the hood does fit over it. Awesome lens!
scc Posted January 10, 2010 Author Share #12 Posted January 10, 2010 Thank you all for your replies, good info here. I just purchased the lens recently, although haven't got my hands on it yet. Should be a great pairing with the M9 - I'm excited
