smoody Posted January 9, 2010 Share #1 Posted January 9, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) There aren't many photos posted yet, but the ones posted are shots in-and-around the desert in Afghanistan, so there is at least one person treating the camera like a standard DSLR: LFI Gallery - Jean-Jacques Ruchti
Advertisement Posted January 9, 2010 Posted January 9, 2010 Hi smoody, Take a look here S2 Shots on LFI Gallery Online. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
adan Posted January 9, 2010 Share #2 Posted January 9, 2010 Yes, I have the print edition of LFI with the same photoessay. I guess the selling point here is that it went into a remote and inhospitable environment (dust, bad guys, etc.) and "kept on clicking." Someone will say it, so I may as well get it out of the way: As reproduced on the web and in print these shots don't show much that a Canon or Nikon, with appropriate lenses to minimized DoF (say, a 50 f/1.4 and 135 f/2), could not handle. But I guess that's the other selling point - the S2 can switch-hit in the reportage arena as well as in the 37Mpixel studio/commercial/fashion world. Have we learned anything? At least an M3 could go bush for six weeks without needing battery power.
Bo_Lorentzen Posted January 10, 2010 Share #4 Posted January 10, 2010 I suspect the S2 will be much more demanding on the photographer in terms of support systems, power and a place to store the files, in the field, than the M3 ever were. Regardless, as I mentioned in a earlier post, having the hard-copy of LFI here, I am particularly impressed with the one shot with the subject facing the camera, having a background of lighted windows, there are details in the curtains and also beautiful facial details on the subject. While not the post-treatment I would have done myself, it does show a competent management of a very wide dynamic range. and yes the shot is also nicely focused naturally.
