tmanley Posted December 7, 2006 Share #1 Posted December 7, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Leica Users: I like SilkyPix as a Raw convertor but they didn't support M8 files. I e-mailed to ask if they would consider adding support and they wrote right back that they would contact Leica and work on it. Today they added support for the M8 (beta version)! It's a phenomenal software and I'm not sure how it works but it gives great results very easily. Tina

sdai Posted December 7, 2006 Share #3 Posted December 7, 2006 I've been using Silkypix when it only had a Japanese version and it never ceased to amaze me. The raw engine is actually developed by themselves and then licensed to various camera companies including Pentax, and now Panasonic? ...
tmanley Posted December 7, 2006 Author Share #4 Posted December 7, 2006 But the former version could not convert the 8 bit DNG files from the M8. This new version added today does. Tina
sdai Posted December 7, 2006 Share #5 Posted December 7, 2006 It was added two days ago actually, Tina ... and it's called Early Preview. Their first try had the preview draw broken and now it's fixed.
Peter41951 Posted December 7, 2006 Share #6 Posted December 7, 2006 Yes, I tried the free version on Wednesday; my computer grumbles and groans as it seems to need quite a lot of processing power.

Peter41951 Posted December 7, 2006 Share #8 Posted December 7, 2006 That may have been the one; it certainly opened the M8 RAW I have. I've just checked; it is.
innerimager Posted December 7, 2006 Share #9 Posted December 7, 2006 I've used and loved SilkyPix for my Kodak files, and also my RD-1 though new with these. Glad to see they are supporting the M8 and thanks for the heads up. I suspect that they are going to tune it up, but at this point I'm not so taken with it's handling of the M8 and find Raw Developer to yield much more detail and truer colors. Anyway on a 10 minute test. best...Peter
bobrudolph Posted December 8, 2006 Share #10 Posted December 8, 2006 Tina, Thank you so much. I find SilkyPix to be very smooth and rather easy compared to some other software I've tried. Bob
