thinkfloyd Posted January 6, 2010 Share #1 Posted January 6, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) What happened here? This only happened once, and it never occurred again. I'm worried it might happen again though...
Advertisement Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 Hi thinkfloyd, Take a look here Thick black line in M8 pic. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
marknorton Posted January 6, 2010 Share #2 Posted January 6, 2010 Usual effect of having a very bright light source right at the end of the image. The light bleeds into the reference pixels which set the black level and you get this dark green line running to the centre of the frame as the camera tries to compenate for the affected rows. It's down to a sensor design defect, Leica tried to fix the problem in firmware but could not (at least reliably). The effect is on one side of the image only because the image is read out in two halves, left and right. The problem rarely occurs in practice but it's an occupational hazard of living with the M8. To be sure, it will happen again if the conditions are right.
