h00ligan Posted January 6, 2010 Share #1 Posted January 6, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Another poster here piqued my interest in the M8 - however I wonder a few things. What are the differences between the m8 and m8.2? Isn't there some sort of upgrade plan for the m8? What are the well known issues - anything that Leica has extended the warranty for? This is really just an I'm curious post - sorry for the newbie questions.. are there existing threads that address these things? What would be a good price for a used m8 body in like new condition? Advertisement Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 Hi h00ligan, Take a look here M8 upgrades, buying used, etc. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
marknorton Posted January 6, 2010 Share #2 Posted January 6, 2010 Aside from cosmetic differences, the M8.2 introduced three main changes - quieter shutter, sapphire glass, corrected framelines - which are, or were (I haven't checked recently) available as an upgrade program. Quite expensive and any increase in resale value doesn't begin to reflect the cost. They do transform the M8 and two of my M8s came back from upgrade feeling completely different cameras. Part of that, I am sure, is that the upgrade process forces the camera through the current alignment and setup procedures which have been refined and improved since the M8 first appeared. Therefore, if you are buying used, an M8.2 will have the highest value and an upgraded M8 is much preferred over a "cooking" M8 which shuffles along at the back.
