Hi all,

I am having problem trying to take close-up pictures that is under the distance of 0.7m. I sometimes like to take the M8 to fine dinning and take pictures of the ambient and food. When I need to take pictures of the food, I usually have problem with the distance required to focus with most of my Leica lenses. I have been using 90mm, but I am required to sit so far back that it become difficult to focus.

I wondered to resolve this problem, what can I do? I know that there is a Macro 90mm lens, however, I am looking to purchase a M9 soon. I heard that the Macro 90mm can't be used on the M9, is that correct? Please let me know how I can resolve this problem without buying another cannon or nikon slr. Thanks

0.7m is the closest focus distance with some Leica M lenses. Others only go down to 1m. The current Macro Elmar 90 can definitely be used without restriction on the M9 and of course, its close up adaptor brings the focus distance closer. The old 90 Elmar collapsible should not be collapsed on the camera.

The higher magnification of longer lenses will definitely help you, especially where their minimum distance is still 0.7m. I use my APO SUMMICRON 75mm ASPH. for closer shots regularly on the M9 and it is superb. You get higher effective magnification on the M8 of course (or the same from the M8 size centre of the M9 sensor).

If you are keen and willing to experiment it is possible to use the Visoflex system too (with M8 or M9) and you certainly can do REALLY close work with that. (Postage stamp close)
