M8 features since launch

I was wondering if the original (and "rectified") M8's features altered since its launch leading up to the M8.2?

 

1. For example was the M8 originally covered in leatherette, and then later covered in the vulcanite finish?

 

My M7 has leatherette but I think then later a la carte "options" ordering of M7 cameras enables customers the choice of finishes.

 

2. Was the M8's battery charger kit always the charger unit with a direct plug connection to the power point? Or was it originally a charge unit with a power cord and later changed to the "direct" plug-in single unit type?
