taildraggin Posted January 1, 2010 Share #61 Posted January 1, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) All these 4/3 types are targeted as digital 'rangefinders' and they aren't designed to kill off DSLRs. Rangefinders aren't for high speed tasks for all the oft flogged reasons demonstrated over the past 50 years viz SLRs. No one complains that the manual focus M9 focuses slower than a D2X. If you want a fast action camera, you're not going to use a GF-1, an EP-2 or an X-1: you still use a "death-by-menu" DSLR. As long as the X1 is 'competent' in its focusing, I'm good with that. drstefanlenz Posted January 1, 2010 Share #62 Posted January 1, 2010 ... Rangefinders aren't for high speed tasks for all the oft flogged reasons demonstrated over the past 50 years viz SLRs. No ... i disagree. using the m actually has been the fastest choice for me, when prefocussed. the decisive moments cannot afford several tenth of a second delay then, for sure. i focus and then wait for that right expresssion, or movement and i shot. if the camera then takes too long, well, all is lost. leica m is being used for its speed, for sure. the m8 is very quick, with maybe 1/10 of a sec ... MarkM6 Posted January 10, 2010 Share #63 Posted January 10, 2010 Quote from The Leica X1 Digital Camera Review | STEVE HUFF PHOTOS "You can indeed shoot on the street with this camera and I have done so, even at night. Just be prepared to miss some shots and to take more time getting a shot. Just remember, if you try to catch a decisive moment with the AF on the X1, you will need luck on your side. I feel an M is faster with manual focus." Hmmmmm... in a darker scene with AF-Assist light off? Or you mean, Manual focus on X1 vs. M6/35mm Summicron? are you willing to bet your X1 for it? P.S. I am not against the X1. I love how Leica sets the new standard in compact camera. All these 4/3 types are targeted as digital 'rangefinders' and they aren't designed to kill off DSLRs. diogenis Posted January 18, 2010 Share #64 Posted January 18, 2010 There is NO question an M is faster regarding AF. However I guess that the M must be slower when the subject moves: very difficult to track a subject manually. But once you lock the focus -and this can be very very fast no matter the light conditions- you can shoot anything real fast. With some practice one can also do some AF tracking ala PEN2
Driver8 Posted February 9, 2010 Share #65 Posted February 9, 2010 Companies like Toyota don't make it to the top without spending a good bit of time and money listening to their customers. Okay, maybe this is a bad example.
