AlbertoDeRoma Posted December 16, 2009 Share #1 Posted December 16, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I knew that joining this forum would be a threat to my wallet. All the talk about the Digilux 2 - especially that stunning picture of the race-car driver and those yummy pictures of the Lederhosen Digilux 2 made it very hard for me not to want one. Especially since I am a a fan of vintage equipment - and vintage-looking equipment. There was an ad in our local craigslist for $550 and, after much consideration and awareness of potential issues with the sensor, etc., decided to meet the seller and see the camera. Both the seller and the camera turned out to be great and I am now the VERY proud owner of a Digilux 2 (in addition to the Digilux 4 I acquired recently.) You don't have to spend much time with this camera to understand why some people like it so much. It has the charm of film camera and the convenience of digital. I just love being able to adjust focus, aperture, ISOs, etc., without having to go to menus and submenus. Thank you all for lighting a fire under my butt. I am $550 poorer but, for that amount of money, there was no other piece of photographic equipment I wanted more. Alberto P.S. The posts of the people who said they'd fix the camera for $600 if it broke and who said that it was the first camera they reached for were particularly convincing. To me, that kind of testimony matters more than pixel counts or any other spec. I know that some cameras are admired because of their performance and others LOVED because of ... whatever, the IT factor.
Advertisement Posted December 16, 2009 Posted December 16, 2009 Hi AlbertoDeRoma, Take a look here You guys! I just bought a Digilux 2 thanks to this forum .... I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
sgilder Posted December 16, 2009 Share #2 Posted December 16, 2009 Where are you located? I think I tried to buy that one last week through email and the seller flaked out at the last minute. Guess I can't blame him if he had a local buyer with cash in hand. Especially if it went to someone on the forum. Hope you enjoy it. I had a similar experience after joining the forum. My D2 should arrive tomorrow.

The seller mentioned that he had some seller remorse (and I guess concerns about shipping, etc.) I am happy you managed to find another one, let us know when it arrives. Mike88 Posted December 17, 2009 Share #8 Posted December 17, 2009 You are not alone, Alberto. I have to confess too. After reading all the posts in this forum, as well as Thorsten's excellent website (overgaard.dk/leica_digilux2.html), I bought one for myself just yesterday. Can't wait to give it a go. Have creative fun with yours and do post some photos soon. Thanks again to this forum.
roguewave Posted December 18, 2009 Share #9 Posted December 18, 2009 Alberto, read the manual, very carefully. There's a lot to this camera. The B&W mode is one of the real unique features. Also, the custom settings make it even easier. Above all, take it everywhere you can & shoot, shoot, shoot.... Congrats.
AlbertoDeRoma Posted December 18, 2009 Author Share #10 Posted December 18, 2009 Alberto, read the manual, very carefully. There's a lot to this camera. The B&W mode is one of the real unique features. Also, the custom settings make it even easier. Above all, take it everywhere you can & shoot, shoot, shoot.... Congrats. Thanks Ben. I don't have a hard copy of the manual but I got one online and I am going through it. Having a D-Lux 4 and a Panasonic FZ-35, the operations look pretty familiar. So far, I must admit, that I haven't yet taken any great shots, but the light has been pretty bad (cloudy, hazy) these days - and I've been working during the "magic hours." About the B&W mode ... I love B&W, but the consensus seems to be that it's better to shot color and then desaturate in PS. Are there any advantages to shooting B&W directly? Sorry if this is a newbie question, but that's what I consider myself (although I am learning fast.) Thanks, Alberto
manie_de Posted December 18, 2009 Share #11 Posted December 18, 2009 Advantage is (when you shoot RAW in B&W mode) that you get one B&W picture and a RAW in color to fiddle with if the B&W turned out not satisfying enough. And you see B&W through the EVF and the LCD and can compose the shot in B&W. Martin
