Fred Kruger Posted December 8, 2009 Share #1 Posted December 8, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) For no apparent reason (no shocks, no exposure to the elements) the Leica D Vario-Elmarit lens on my Digilux 3 has suddenly begun to give a problem. I can zoom only between 14 and about 22mm. Sometimes it will inexplicably allow zooming over the whole range. Anyone have advice for me? Contact Leica & ship to them. Mine took about 3 weeks & is working perfect now. BTW, service was no charge.
carlosecpf Posted December 8, 2009 Share #3 Posted December 8, 2009 Apparently this is a common issue with this lens. If you have got a Lumix L1 (Digilux 3 twin sister), you would be in trouble since I heard they charge a lot for this repair. That's one of the reason it worth going Leica: their superb customer support. If you don't have any luck with them, let me know because I have some links on the web that show a DYI repair to this lens. Apparently is pretty simple procedure. Fred Kruger Posted December 9, 2009 Author Share #4 Posted December 9, 2009 Many thanks to both of you. carlosecpf, it would be good if you were to give me those links for DYI, please, I have a reputable camera repair person, so this might be a better option than shipping to Germany and the Leica agency in South Africa is notoriously bad.
