75mm Summarit problem?

Hi folks,

I just got an M8 and also got a 75mm summarit lens. This photo from the lens is bothering me a bit. I am still waiting for my UVIR filters to arrive. But from what I've read, this does not seem to be the UVIR issue which is primarily about a magneta cast to black clothing. This seems like a purple fringing issue. I don't know enough about what causes the magneta problem to know if these are related. However, I've NEVER seen a lens do this. Any input would be appreciated. Attached the photo and a 100% crop. Also, I had looked at Sean Reids review of the lens before purchasing, and now that I look again, notice that the chromatic aberration portion of the review is missing.

Its the result of shooting extreme highlights and has been covered elsewhere in this forum (its not chromatic aberration). If its any comfort I have photos with precisely the same problem off M8 & 90/2.8 Elmarit and Canon 5D2 & 85/1.2L. You can deal with it by selecting the area affected and de-saturating the magenta - not ideal but it does work!

Thanks for the info ( I'll try and find the other thread - unless you have a pointer ). So it is an issue with the sensor?

Hello, I got an answer from the RF forum which made a lot of sense. It's from color interpolation during RAW conversion of the Bayer patterned image from the sensor because of extreme color contrast between two adjacent pixels. This is exacerbated by sharp lenses and sensors which is the case for an M8 and a really sharp lens such as this one. So, if anything, it's paradoxically a testament to the sharpness of the lens and the cameras output. :)
