jbl Posted December 6, 2009 Share #1 Posted December 6, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have 35mm and 50mm Summicrons for my MP, so my main filter size is 39mm. On the 35, I have a Leica E39 clear filter and on the 50 I have a B+W UV/Haze MRC filter. Since I've recently begun shooting B&W film, I picked up a Yellow 8 and a Red 29 filter, both are B+W MRC filters. Now the weird part and, hence, my question. The B+W Yellow 8 filter will not thread over the B+W UV/Haze filter. I can thread it on, but after about one full turn, it stops, almost like I've got it mis-threaded, but I'm practically positive I don't. The yellow 8 filter goes on just fine on either lens without a filter under it, it goes on fine over the Leica E39 filter, it even goes on fine over the red 29 filter (why you'd want to do that is another matter, but it does work). And the red 29 filter goes on fine over the B+W haze filter, even though the yellow 8 doesn't. Has anyone else ever seen this or am I completely crazy? Thanks :-). Advertisement Posted December 6, 2009 Posted December 6, 2009 Hi jbl, Take a look here b+w yellow 8 filter threads. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
giordano Posted December 6, 2009 Share #2 Posted December 6, 2009 All the B+W yellow and red filters for black and white film absorb the violet and ultraviolet, so if you're crazy it's for wanting to stack them on top of your UV filters.
Guest dk_samurai Posted December 6, 2009 Share #3 Posted December 6, 2009 Right. I think OP doesn't want to stack them, but just wondering why he can't stack them properly, if he actually DID want to do this. Anyways. I have no idea why you can't. But since the color filters are MRC anyways, just use them as your protective filters instead of UV filters, when you desire to use color filters. MRC filters are pretty scratch resistant. /David
Photoskeptic Posted December 8, 2009 Share #4 Posted December 8, 2009 I have a B+W UV - Haze and a B+W 022 yellow. They are "F-Pro" series and they stack perfectly. Perhaps you have one with a manufacturing defect?
