zoomstop Posted December 5, 2009 Share #1 Posted December 5, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello Everyone, I just took delivery of my M9 Gray. It was ordered on 9/9 and delivered on 12/1. Anyway I wanted to purchase new memory cards 8GB or 16GB to accommodate the larger file size of each photo compared to the M8.2. I was all set to purchase the fastest Memory card from Sandisk (Extreme Series) until I ran into official Leica PDF (Link Below) explaining the expected performance rating of the various tested cards. Can someone explain to me why a SanDisk Ultra 2 would perform better then a Extreme on a M9? The Ultra has a 16mbs speed and the extreme has a 30mb/s speed. Logic would say that the extreme would be better but not according to our good friends at Leica. FAQ LEICA M9

swamiji Posted December 5, 2009 Share #2 Posted December 5, 2009 This may have nothing to do with the card speed, but the size of the directory. There can be lots of reasons why a larger card will perform (in real life) less well than a smaller one. Most has to do with the design of the card reader (in this case the camera), the fact that the M9 is so picky about cards implies this. One of the reasons may be, is that it cannot read the entire directory in a single go, and may need either to shuffle things around in memory, or take a second pass. This slows things down. Hopefully this type of behavior will be corrected with future firmware upgrades.
