I've lurked here for a long time, and have recently made the move. I finally ditched my DSLR gear after carrying a Canon 1 Ds2, backup, and lenses around for a week of daily walks through Vancouver.

I took advantage of a great deal on a mint M8, 24 Elmarit ASPH, 28 Elmarit ASPH, and 50 Summicron. I may trade off either the 24 or 28 after trying them out, in order to get something wider and/or faster for last light and evening shooting.

On the downside, I just got an estimate from NJ for my D2 - $600 for the circuit board. I was going to use that as a backup, but that's a bit steep...they didn't even mention replacing the sensor...

Anyway, I'm really excited about this new adventure. I'll post to the gallery when I've had a chance to try it out.

I also picked up my first M8 today after resisting for a couple of years.

The price on a refurb'd demo was too attractive and will allow me to re-enter into

the Leica M process after selling off everything just before the M8 was originally

released.

In my case, I've opted to go with a few Zeiss ZM lenses to keep cost down, initially, while

I determine if the system is going to work for my needs.

Couple of quick questions for M8 veterans.

1-should there be any difference in noise characteristics between an M8 and an M8.2 ?

I'm referring to sensor noise and not camera/shutter noise.

2-One of the lenses I've purchased is the Zeiss 21 2.8.

It has been coded as an M-21 asph and has a proper Leica IR filter in place.

Camera recognizes the lens as a 21.

Early tests on a white wall under artificial illumination show quite a noticeable bar of magenta

down both the left and right hand sides of the frame when the center in neutralized

in Cap One 5

Are there any known IR issues with the lens that I have missed in doing my research ?

Thanks,

Mark

Thanks, Bo. So far, one evening in, I'm finding it a treat - hand-holding at ridiculously long shutter speeds, figuring out how to access the Picture Parameters menu, realizing that energy efficient indoor lights aren't tungsten, etc., etc.

Mark - I haven't heard of that issue with the Zeiss 21. It's a tough one to research - Combining M8 and magenta in a Google search takes one on a long journey...
