Hello,

I am a bit new to digital, or at least rather new to the new iMac I just purchased.

I also purchased a new M9, so I installed, or so I thought the free Light Room from this Leica Owner's site.

Well, I downloaded it, but every time I try and bring it up, it wants to re-install it's self.

What the heck am I doing wrong?

Thanks

Steve,

You are probably still accessing the installer that is probably still on your desktop.

Find your Applications Folder and launch it from there. It should be listed alphabetically as "Adobe Light Room 2".

I have the following problem with LR 2.5 which until recently I was using without any trouble.

All the folders in the library have lost their names and just show question marks where the names were. If I right-click (I use a pc) then click "find missing folder" a warning pops up stating that the file or folder is already in Lightroom, but when I go into the develop module and select one of the files LR tells me that the file is offline or missing.

I thought this might have arisen because I downloaded LR3 beta, so I uninstalled that but it has made no difference.

Can anyone help please?

I wonder if you disconnected an external drive at some point. In any event, once you right click on the folder and choose "find missing folder," then you should be able to navigate to the folder's new location and click "select" to relink. (At least, so says Mr. Kelby.)

You will often find files with "?" marks. Clicking on the ? will invite you to refresh the link. But folders usually show in pale letters until the folders are on-line.

One other thought, try accessing a recent backup of your LR catalogue. Sometimes they can get corrupted.

It is also a good idea to set LR to do a backup and a Catalogue check regularly - once a week say.

I think ronaldh has for whatever reason moved the missing files to another location - the cure has already been given here.

The Op is indeed trying to access via the installer. Once installed delete the unzipped installer, but retain the downloaded original dmg somewhere in a folder for software downloads.

Thanks for your suggestions. It is not for want of a back up, but I have noticed that what was Drive H on my pc is now called Drive I and what was I is now J. Both are external drives but I have done nothing to change any connections so remain mystified and also wonder if this is linked to the LR problem.

Windows assigns drive letters to external drives when they're turned on - it's not a permanent attribute. If you've added a drive, then letters will be re-assigned. Not a problem - in Lightroom simply browse for the re-located folder and everything will be updated.
