fjmcsu Posted March 16, 2010 Share #61 Posted March 16, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Joshua, That is my frustration and hope; I can not for the life of me find a card that is recognized by the camera to install the update!! I tried SanDisk 2 GB,Ultras 2- 2 GB,16GB class 4, & Ridata 2GB -all worked on the M8, not the 9 ?!
Advertisement Posted March 16, 2010 Posted March 16, 2010 Hi fjmcsu, Take a look here M9 problem with SD Cards. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
strynoski Posted March 16, 2010 Share #62 Posted March 16, 2010 What SD card did you finally use to update the firmware? I used an older 256mb Lexar Platinum (40x) which the camera recognized. In my case, I never had a problem with non-SDHC cards (512mb, 1G, and 2G.) Only the SDHC cards (4G and up) were not recognized consistently. Occasionally, the camera would recognize an Ultra II 4 or 8G card, but if the camera were turned off it might not recognize the card when turned back on. So I've been using 2G cards up to now without a problem, and with the firmware update, most, but not all of my SDHC cards work. Just think, SDXC cards (up to 64G) have just been introduced! Snapper UK Posted March 17, 2010 Author Share #63 Posted March 17, 2010 Upgraded my firmware the other day and was disappointed not to have my "no SD Card" problems sorted. Called Milton Keynes nad they suggested I try cards in a different M9. I took my M9 and the SD cards I am having problems with (2x Lexar 8GB SDHC pro Class 6 x133) to the Leica store on Bruton Place, (my first visit) and they seemed to replicate my problems with the cards in their camera, albeit slightly more inconsistently than my M9. The cards initially seemed to work in their M9 and could be formatted (which can't be done in mine), but then seemed not to work properly. Images would write to memory not to card. Not particularly conclusive or satisfactory. They did however give me a 8GB Sandisk Ultra which does work.
fjmcsu Posted March 17, 2010 Share #64 Posted March 17, 2010 As it turns out my M9 problem is not with the cards but the actual contacts from the board that come in contact with the card as it is inserted. Under examination with the Leica representative, it appears the small linear contacts on the right side of the camera SD slot were bent/ crushed by the card. Not sure how / why it occurred but in retrospect when I placed the card that had previously worked into the camera, there was slight resistance & it didn't "click" as easily as I had noted previously on this camera as well as the M8.With repeated insertions of the various cards I tried the contact apparently were bent into place so that the normal click retuned! At any rate they will be trying to find a replacement if available as as soon as possible. Again the dealer & Leica have been exemplary in their response ;)
