JWW Posted December 3, 2009 Share #1 Posted December 3, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Warning that without a full battery, the M9 will automatically close the shutter while in Sensor Cleaning mode. It almost ate my Butterfly when I was cleaning with a 50% battery. Seems ok with a fully charged one though.
Advertisement Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 Hi JWW, Take a look here Before M9 Sensor Cleaning. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
lars_bergquist Posted December 4, 2009 Share #2 Posted December 4, 2009 The manual says so. Manuals may be for cissies, but they are for rational people too. The old man from the Age Before Camera Batteries

It almost ate my Butterfly when I was cleaning with a 50% battery. Seems ok with a fully charged one though. I'm surprised that you were able to activate Sensor Cleaning mode. Normally if the battery charge is insufficient (I've noticed @ approx. -75%), you get a message that tells you something along the lines of: Insufficient battery power for Sensor Cleaning. JWW Posted December 4, 2009 Author Share #4 Posted December 4, 2009 Lars, thanks, I should read manual more closely. I had the M8 so long I that I assumed everything would be similar. Mike, I think the M8 works that way. It seems on the M9 you can start cleaning it but suddenly after a short period the shutter will close without warning. Jeff S Posted December 4, 2009 Share #5 Posted December 4, 2009 Don't even need to own an M9 to read it... • If the battery capacity falls to less than 40% while the shutter is open, a warning message will appear in the monitor. At the same time a sustained beep tone will sound, which continues until the camera is switched off. Switching the camera off will cause the shutter to be closed again. Be absolutely sure in this case that the shutter widow is clear, i.e. that no object can obstruct the closing movement of the shutter, otherwise damage may occur!
