blado Posted December 2, 2006 Share #21 Posted December 2, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Robert's is a good idea. It's the motherboard. Computers have always sucked; cameras have only recently started to.
Advertisement Posted December 2, 2006 Posted December 2, 2006 Hi blado, Take a look here M8 Died , Need help to find one . I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
sean_reid Posted December 2, 2006 Share #22 Posted December 2, 2006 Guy, this may be a longshot but if the internal logic/CPU does need resetting you may have to leave the battery out for several hours until the camera forgets the time and date. It probably has an internal cell/capacitor (that's charged from the battery) to supply the clock/CPU etc. when the battery is removed for charging. Bob. Guy, Might as well give that a shot. Cheers, Sean
kdemas Posted December 2, 2006 Share #23 Posted December 2, 2006 Guy, You might try leaving the battery out for 3+ hours. Don't ask why but I have seen it work with some Nikon and Canon pro gear before. I'll cross my fingers for you. Kent

blado Posted December 2, 2006 Share #25 Posted December 2, 2006 I think so, too (I meant that about cameras as a joke). There are probably just a few logic problems with the operating system in the camera. If you got part of it operational, maybe Leica could front you that version 1.10 we've been hearing about? Robert i am thinking the same thing. i wonder if this has some internal battery . hooking it up tethered now that is a thought also.I will leve the battery out overnight. now if i get it going i wonder if a reload of firmware may zap it. Just like a computer , needs a reboot

Guest umb Posted December 2, 2006 Share #34 Posted December 2, 2006 Robert's is a good idea. It's the motherboard. Computers have always sucked; cameras have only recently started to. Not really. My Leica R4 went to the service 4 times in the first 2 years. The warranty period of the R8 had to be extended from 2 to 5 years, the reason being malfunctioning electronics. The M7 ISO detection never really worked until they changed it completely only recently.
gogopix Posted December 2, 2006 Share #35 Posted December 2, 2006 I hate to mention the old reliable (Courtesy of Robert) called clean the contacts. I noticed that theDMR and even my contax were prone to poorcontacts. Just clean the battery with alcohol (preferably isopropyl 91%) and LEAVE A BIT on the battery contacts. Then put in and out of the camera several times. That cleans internal and then evaporates. THEN clean the battery contacts a second time and wipe off (that gets rid of the grease that builds heck, cant lose! Regards Victor

brucek Posted December 3, 2006 Share #37 Posted December 3, 2006 Give it a slap or two. If it doesn't help at least it'll make you feel a bit better. :-) And don't minimize the chances of it helping... Bruce

waterlenz Posted December 3, 2006 Share #40 Posted December 3, 2006 My understanding is that there is switch associated with the bottom plate - make sure this is working (mechnical?) or figure out out to do it with jumper cables (electronic?) or mechanically, depending on how it works. Once you do this you could push in the battery (with your pinky?) to see if you get get better contact. Just ideas Tom
