On the 24mm Summilux the B+W Series 7 UV, clear protective and UV-IR filters will all fit between the hood and lens body when any one of them is held in place by the hood. I don't know how you would keep a filter in place without the hood. If you don't use a hood it may be possible to use a stepping ring to go between the hood thread on the lens barrels (they're an odd size) and a reversed normal type of screw on filter with front threads. The problem with this is an unthreaded section of the lens barrel protrudes somewhat and may prevent you screwing on a stepping ring. What you need is a larger version of the Milich WATE filter adapter, as yet unmade. Bob.
dfarkas Posted November 24, 2009 Share #3 Posted November 24, 2009 Leica makes threaded adapter rings for the 21 and 24 Summilux. These work for full-frame and allow for the use of E82 and E72 filters. You will lose the hood, but gain the use of non-series filters. Leica Adapter for 24mm/f1.4 to accept E72 Filter Leica Adapter for 21mm/f1.4 to accept E82 Filter Hope this helps. David
adan Posted November 24, 2009 Share #4 Posted November 24, 2009 This depends on the size of the male thread on the 21/24 that the shades screw onto. With the 18mm, it was possible to mount an empty 58mm filter ring backwards on the lens - in place of the shade, as a spacer - and then mount any 58mm filter you wanted (also backwards) on the empty filter ring. Actually, I think I used a 55-58 step-up ring (58-55 step-down when mounted backwards) as my spacer, allowing me to use a 55mm IR filter and 55mm lens cap. ----------- Hi, David - good info - except that carting around a lens package that is 72-82mm in diameter is SO un-Leica-M-like!! Bob. thanks i should said i dont use caps but the hood i use. so if i understand correctly, i can use a bw series 7 uv for the 28 and to speculate a series 8 for the 21. and looks like a plain 58mm filter for the 18. thanks guys.
