ottocrat Posted November 23, 2009 Share #1 Posted November 23, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) On Friday I bought my first rangefinder, a used M8.2, together with a new CV 35/1.4 Nokton Classic (mc). As I mentioned in another thread, testing it over the weekend I found what seems to be the classic back focus problem with this lens so this morning I took it back to the dealer who was kind enough to take it back and sell me a used 35/2 Summicron (third gen, made in Canada, a bit beat up but no apparent defects). I've just got to the office with it and have shot a few first trial images and without exception they are all horribly out of focus. I have no idea what might be wrong. Can anyone advise any immediate things I can do to check where the error lies? Hopefully it's with me.

My best suggestion is to test first the camera RF using a lens which is known to focus properly (your dealer or a friend may help you to make this basic test). If it is the camera RF which needs calibration, usually its is quite essy to adjust. Cheers, Ario
ottocrat Posted November 23, 2009 Author Share #3 Posted November 23, 2009 Thank you Ario. I made my way again to the dealer, through gale force winds and sheeting rain - that's four times in three days, I spend more time there nowadays than I do in the office. We confirmed that the problem is with the lens, the focus ring seems to be out of whack, distances are all wrong.
dpattinson Posted November 23, 2009 Share #4 Posted November 23, 2009 Try a new (coded) lens on the camera, if that also back focuses then probably it's the camera.
ottocrat Posted November 23, 2009 Author Share #5 Posted November 23, 2009 Thanks David, we did exactly that at the shop and the camera was fine, I've just been unlucky with two lenses in a row.
