The person who robbed my house many years ago probably sold it for 50 bucks or threw it away.

That's sad. The Alpa was a jewel.

The thief probably was happy to turn it for $25, and the dealer who bought it probably turned around and sold it for $750.

Here is a real world example of lateral CA with which I am very familiar - in this case because I shoot underwater a great deal and so have to shoot through a thick plane port which introduces lateral CA, the vast majority of which can be corrected for in raw conversion. Original, uncorrected and corrected images are attached. The detail is from near the lower right corner,

What I am interested in is dealing with the colour fringing on out of focus contrast edges, if it can be dealt with (I'll try and find a good example to post) and what precisely is the cause - I note that you refer to chromatic aberration being in the image plane only, but clearly in some lenses there are effects which influence the edges in the oof information - effectively creating colour fringing within parts of the 'bokeh'. As I do print at reasonable sizes (A2 for example), this can look less than pleasant especially when the edges are green. At the moment I'm still using my M8 but I'm interested to find out what fringing if any occurs with the M9 and the fast wides. My 5D2 and 24/1.4 exhibits substantial red and green fringing in oof areas and one aim (eventually) is to substantialy reduce this.

From the original poster's pix it looks as though the 50/1.4 (whether asph or ortherwise) exhibits little CA although it would be interesting to see corner details from f/1.4.

And here is an example of colour fringing in front of (magenta - shows best on top of the hand) and behind (obvious and unpleasant - green) to point of focus (24/1.4 Canon at 1.4). I don't see a way of correcting this but would be delighted if anyone has a solution cheaper than replacing the lens!
