M9 Registration Questions

I haven't registered my M9 with Leica yet, but I have a few questions:

1. Do you register via the Leica website or via mail with the Leica registration card or both?

2. Once I register, where do I go for the Lightroom product key (there is a code on the back of the booklet that came with the M9, but I'm not sure what it is).

3. The included booklet also indicates that I will receive LFI magazine. How does that work? Does it start arriving once you register?

In addition, I noticed that my Leica product registration card has M8 on it! Was this a mistake by Leica or have they not created M9 cards yet? I just thought it was interesting.

Thanks in advance.

I got my M9 in Japan and it does not come with a registration card.

I will register via Leica's website, though haven't done it yet. I also did the same previously to register my M8 for the two UVIR filter for free at that time.

The number on the white sticker at the back of the lightroom pamphlet should be the activation key already.

My M9 also does not come with booklet talking about free LFI subscription.

I emailed Leica on the registration issue and they clarified the issue for me. All you need to do is register on the website. There is no need to mail in the card.

Once you have setup your profile and registered your M9, you will have a new link under the "Benefits" section of the owner's page. It will have a link for you to register the M9 using the number on the white sticker. This process will result in you getting emailed your Lightroom activation code.

You can also sign up to recieve 6 free months of LFI in this same Benefits section.

My booklet indicates that "as a Leica M9 customer" I will be entitled to a free 6 month subscription to LFI magazine. It also states that the subscription ends automatically after four issues.

I registered via the Leica website.

Once you've registered your M9 there's a space where you have to fill in the TAN number on the back of the booklet. You will then receive a product code from Leica via email, which you can enter on the Lightroom program that you've downloaded.

In the "Owner's Log in area" there is a separate section to insert your details to receive the LFI magazine.

I'm just going to post a friendly question here.

Do you know what you are registering for?

I haven't got my M9 yet, but not sure I'll register.

Have you read all the terms & conditions of registering?

Why are they giving you an incentive to register?

In most cases, when you register something with a company, the 'thing' then becomes the property of the company again. That's what you are signing over.

In the UK, when you register your new car you are handing ownership of it over to the DVLA. You become the 'registered keeper'. That's why they can take it away and crush it if you don't pay your road tax. As it happens, you are not obliged to register a car even though they would have you believe you are.

When you register for your driving license you are agreeing to abide by the rules of the road traffic 'act' (an act is a statute given the force of law with the consent of the governed) Did you know you don't need a license to 'drive' (legal term) a car? You have the right to 'travel' using your 'mode of locomotion' without a license. (not that I necessarily think that's a good thing)

When you register your child's birth, guess what? That's right. They can take your child from you if they see fit. If you don't register your child's birth, they can't take your child from you.

Very different for a camera I know, but just wanted to make the point that when you register anything you are agreeing to 'stand under' (understand) those terms and conditions.

Who ever reads them? Why do you think they are pages and pages long?

I try not to register for anything an more.

Sorry for waffling, but it's an area I'm very interested in at the moment. :)

Regards

Bob

Thanks for pointing that out: I was wondering why my first LFI had not yet showed up, having assumed Leica would sort it out on confirmation of M9 purchase a couple of months back. :)
