miami91 Posted December 1, 2006 Share #1 Posted December 1, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) As has been posted by others (most recently by Allen Brewer), Leica is currently running a promotion in North America that promises a $500.00 "gift certificate" with the purchase of an M7 or MP body. Recently, after deciding to wait out the M8 problems, I took my money destined for the M8 and bought a second M7 body. Naturally, I was looking forward to the $500.00 gift certificate and excitedly mailed in the rebate form. Today in the mail I received an envelope from Leica USA which contained four $125.00 vouchers for 6-bit coding of M lenses. No note, no letter, just the four vouchers. Is this their idea of a $500.00 gift certificate??? I may very well buy the M8 someday, but I don't even have four lenses to be coded! (I own three M lenses, but have acquired two of them recently enough that they are already coded). This is incredibly irritating, and although it may be legal (?), is clearly unethical. The rebate form doesn't mention lens coding coupons, or "gift certificates of our choice", but rather a $500.00 gift certificate. I plan on sending an email to Leica tomorrow expressing my anger at this, and I'll send the lens coding coupons back with a hard-copy of this email. Not sure this will do any good, but they really shouldn't be allowed to get away with this. What in the world is happening to this company?!?! Advertisement Posted December 1, 2006 Posted December 1, 2006 Hi miami91, Take a look here Irritation with Leica USA. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
abrewer Posted December 1, 2006 Share #2 Posted December 1, 2006 Jeffrey, it sounds like a mistake to me. I seriously doubt what they sent you is right. The brochure clearly indicates you'll receive a $500 gift certificate, valid for one year, with the purchase you made. Let me make a suggestion: call Christian's office tomorrow and tell them what has happened. If you could fax him a letter explaining the situation around 9 AM EST, along with the coupons you received, I'm sure you will get a prompt and apologetic reply from Leica. Contact person: Christian Erhardt, Marketing Manager Phone: 800-222-0118 Fax: 201-995-1686 I'd also ask them if I could keep the vouchers! Thanks. Dan States Posted December 1, 2006 Share #3 Posted December 1, 2006 Sounds more like this promotion from the Leica website: 10/12/2006 Purchase any new M lens from an authorized USA/Canadian Leica dealer between October 1 and December 31, 2006, and you will receive 2 free vouchers - worth $125 each entitling you to upgrade your existing Leica M lenses by adding the 6-bit code. Lens conversion for customers will begin on Nov. 1, 2006. To take advantage of this exciting, limited-time program, you must register your new Lieca M lens and submit any rebate claims within 30 days of purchase. Kindly return a copy of the original dated sales receipt and completed Leica USA warranty card along with the completed forms. After registration is completed, 2 vouchers for 6-bit coding will be sent to you. Please allow 6-8 weeks for processing. Lens conversion for customers will begin in November, 2006. Please contact Customer Serivce at (201) 995-0051 ext 236 for more information.
abrewer Posted December 1, 2006 Share #4 Posted December 1, 2006 Agreed, Dan. It sounds like someone simply credited Jeffrey for the amount he was due with the wrong certificates, and they just need to be notified of the mistake to make it right. Thanks. rob_x2004 Posted December 1, 2006 Share #6 Posted December 1, 2006 Whatever you do make sure you bring it up in here before you chat to anyone at the dealers to get to the bottom of it......... I know, spend your valuable time posting here, then tomorrow when you can get around to it email your complaints to the dealer and Leica.
miami91 Posted December 1, 2006 Author Share #7 Posted December 1, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Rob, It's hardly an either/or. I don't lessen the possibility of getting a satisfactory response from Leica by raising the issue here --- perhaps the opposite, in fact. And the dealer has nothing to do with it. The rebate isn't through them, it's directly through Leica USA. I thought to mention it on the forum because a) I thought someone might have some good advice (which Allan did), and the rebate has been mentioned by others on the forum, so if it's not what it appears to be, shouldn't people know? Anyway, I am hopeful that it is a mistake and can be straightened out. Regardless, it seems to me yet another example of a less than ideal interaction with Leica. If they'd even included a form letter explaining the coupons, it might shed some light on the situation (ie, show that they confused my purchase of a camera with the purchase of lenses). But in absence of this, it's all rather confusing. Having spent $10,000.00 USD on Leica products in the past 60 days alone (D3, D-Lux3, M7, 28mm cron), I'm not a Leica basher, am I? I just want and expect the company to keep its word on it's promotions. And in fairness to Leica, if/when they rectify this to my satisfaction, I will happily give them credit on this same forum. Jeff.
Guest xxl-user Posted December 1, 2006 Share #8 Posted December 1, 2006 so better buy your m7 used at ebay and get a rebate of 50%.
rob_x2004 Posted December 1, 2006 Share #9 Posted December 1, 2006 I would have rung them up first to find out if there had been a mistake or I had misunderstood something before launching a thread on an international forum that carries title Irritation with Leica USA. However you do your business. Your call.
captain Posted December 1, 2006 Share #10 Posted December 1, 2006 I would have rung them up first to find out if there had been a mistake or I had misunderstood something before launching a thread on an international forum that carries title Irritation with Leica USA. However you do your business. Your call. I dont see anything wrong with asking here first. It wouldnt be the first time I have ran off half cocked and missed some fine print when I should have check if others have had the same experience. Certainly far more pertinant than the "should i cover my red dot with tape" threads
miami91 Posted December 1, 2006 Author Share #11 Posted December 1, 2006 I'm happy to report that Leica USA customer service responded to my faxed letter TODAY, in a matter of hours. They will be sending me the $500.00 rebate as promised in the literature. The lens coupons were apparently part of a different promotion, as described by Dan above . I don't think I was actually eligible for this other promotion (never sent in any forms, etc.), but doesn't much matter. So I'm satisfied, and quite happy that Leica responded so quickly. And before Rob says "told you so", I wouldn't have known who Christian Erhardt was, or what the fax number to the marketing department was without making my post and receiving the kind assistance of Allan Brewer. Thank you Allan. All's well that ends well, as the bard said. Regards, Jeff.
