Riley Posted December 2, 2006 Share #21 Posted December 2, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) ok, having reflected on what i have said about knowing IR and vignetting would be an issue it is clear thet they worked methodicly to solve these problems the lens coding is the road they went to resolve vignetting, and will bring other features with it. I dont think they thought that IR was as big a problem as it came to be remember that out of the reviewers who tested it, i dont recall anyone identifying IR problems. So maybe Leica/Kodak should have been more thorough about IR testing, but well they wernt. So the fix for IR became filters among the cries of unnacceptable there were two cases about filters of note that putting filters over expensive lenses ` takes something away from the quality of those lenses` that flare is more easily introduced with filters fitted On examining the images produced, and in comparison with ANY other camera in this format range including 5D, i concluded that M8 is indeed stunningly sharp, would it have been sharper without filters, well it seems not to me...but hey Ive been surprised before. Lens flare is a little more difficult to dodge, up to a point a hood will save you, but shooting up sun all bets are off. However in such conditions thats a dice game anyway. Add to that, hoods are not such a bad thing as they help protect the glassware. Lastly, for lenses without filters, the only available fix is Jamies profile. And it seems that this will get you out of trouble for the mostpart. And in any event, no one is yet so sure of what the new firmware will bring, and if it will affect the IR reproduction problems as they are known to us now.
