Lightroom 3.0 Camera calibration

Sort of.

The "embedded profile" is Leica/Jenoptik's profile of the camera, written (embedded) into every .DNG when saved to the SD card.

I'm not sure what "Adobe Standard" means in the context of LightRoom - I use ACR, and it lists the specific version of ACR that first included an Adobe-made camera-specific calibration (e.g., for the M8, "ACR 3.5" - for the M9, nothing yet - hoping for 5.6 pretty soon).

Now, in addition to, or on top of that, I make and save my own profiles by using the sliders on the calibration pane or page below where it says "standard" or "Embedded" to tweak an image I've shot with the camera in question of a Macbeth ColorChecker until the values of the red/green/blue patches in the image match published numbers.

Generally I find the canned profiles from any source to be imperfect and need tweaking - most common flaws: blue/yellow saturation way too high and green hue too yellow and red hue not yellow enough. At the moment I have a tweaked version of the "embedded" profile, and once there is a fresh version of ACR with an M9 profile, that'll likely need tweaking to my own specs also.

When I look at the DNG files from the M9. I can choose in the developer module under camera calibration Adobe Standard or Embedded. Are these the M9 profiles that people where talking about in lightroom 3.0?

Yes, sort of :).

Embedded in this instance indicates no specific Adobe profile applied.

Adobe Standard is the first but probably not the last M9 profile provided by Adobe. It works with earlier versions of LR and ACR too. If you copy the one provided by Sandy here you will have that choice also. I find it excellent thus far.

Hi Andy. I just saw this thread again. I have recently constructed a custom M9 profile using the original Adobe method of photographing a color checker target under (measured) 6500k and 2850k light sources and then used those files with the DNG Profile editor to generate a profile for my specific M9. If you would like a copy that you can use without restriction, drop me a line (anyone) and I'll email it to you to try and give me feedback. I can also provide the 'recipe' if you would like to modify the profile.
