M8.2 purchased in Singapore: how about warranty in the UK?

Hello all.

I have been offered an M8.2 that was purchased a few months ago in Singapore and it is still unregistered. The camera is in the UK now.

The seller mentioned that to register the camera for warranty purposes the registration card needs to be sent to Singapore.

However I think I heard that the warranty in Singapore is valid for one year as opposed to the two years (not mentioning the Passport scheme) that we get in the UK.

Can anybody confirm this?

Also, I wonder if anybody from the UK or Europe on this forum has had a similar experience and what happens in terms of the warranty if there is a problem with the camera. Will Leica UK honor it or does the camera need to be sent back to Singapore (or to Solms?).

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

You can register your camera on-line at the Leica website. For a warranty claim you are supposed to have your guarantee card stamped of filled in by the dealer.

I would certainly think that The Leica distributor in the UK would be under no obligation to provide additional warranty coverage and the Passport coverage for a camera that was not imported by them nor sold by an authorised dealer there. (Of course they may still process any required servicing for you). In addition you are not the original purchaser so you may like to check whether any warranty is applicable. Certainly take that into account in what you consider is a fair value for the camera to you?

Despite what the seller may think or any opinions by others (like me), the only way to know the real situation would be to ask your UK distributor surely?
