jjjjuin Posted November 17, 2009 Share #1 Posted November 17, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Few days I go I posted a thread here regarding to my mp's problem that two images in the viewfinder cannot be overlapped herizontally when I'm focusing. I actually returned the camera to my dealer and teoday I received the fixed one. but the problem havn't be solved totally. There still has a slight gap between two images. Anyone knows how to adjust it by self? I've disppointed the leica service here in Beijing. here I attached a simulated pictures to show my problem for your better understanding. haris Posted November 17, 2009 Share #2 Posted November 17, 2009 As I can see, there are two causes. One is that you don't place your eye on correct position when look throuhg viewfinder. Place eye at center of viewfinder, camera to be leveled, that is not slightly leaned up or down. With rangefinder your eye must be at "perfect" position when look through viewfider, and when you need to lean camera up or down you move your head up or down too, not just camera, in order to hold eye in "perfect" position on viewfinder. If that doesn't help, maybe you have rangefinder alingment problem. That is one of rangefinder cameras common problems, and that is one of few drawbacks of rangefinder cameras compared to SLR (SLR don't have that problem, rangefinder do, because of technology of SLR and rangefinder). One of most common sources for misalingment is knock of camera during carrying or handling camera, or during transport (for example from seller to buyer, or from manufacurer to seller). Leica M cameras are not that sensitive to misalingment as for example Voigtlaender Bessa, but as M are also rangefinders, that can happen to them too. That problem is easy to fix at camera service, especially at authorized service. User of camera can also fix it him/herself, but as it require opening of camera, it is better to bring camera to service at authorized place, and more if camera is under warranty, in that case best option is to bring (or send) camera to authorized service. If misalingment isn't case, then I don't know. Good luck

Doc Henry Posted November 17, 2009 Share #4 Posted November 17, 2009 Hi Juin, As Haris said, it's better you give your camera to a Leica dealer for revision of the rangefinder. Leica Camera AG - Service - worldwide network Regards Henry
tobey bilek Posted November 19, 2009 Share #5 Posted November 19, 2009 Since about 1985 the vertical alignment requires a special tool to repair. You could do earlier M`s with a screwdriver. The adjustment is behind the Dot which you must peal and replace or remove the top from the camera.
jhild Posted November 26, 2009 Share #6 Posted November 26, 2009 basically a rangefinder adjustment doesn´t require to open the camera, but if you don´t know what to do and where it´s better to give the camera to an authorized dealer. If your problem was worse before you had it fixed then you should just go there again. Even if you have the special tool, I have one, adjustment is not easy because we are talking about very small movements, a 1/10th mm is a very big movement already! Sometimes when the horizontal alignment is adjusted the vetical alignment needs adjustment, too. If you have no DIY experience on M leicas you can easily damage your camera causing high repair costs. Have fun Jo
