John Maio Posted November 30, 2006 Share #1 Posted November 30, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) I received delivery of a Digilux-3 today and had a question about compatibility with an external flash unit I already own. I sent an email to Leica Technical Service at 7:14 PM Mountain Time (2114 in New Jersey), and received my detailed answer from James Butler at 7:21 PM! Now that's incredible! With all the Leica bashing going on, I just had to mention this. By the way, the Digilux 3 uses SCA-3202 M5 (same as Olympus E System)...

leicamann Posted November 30, 2006 Share #2 Posted November 30, 2006 John...Leica bashing is a very common thing on the Leica forum especially in the Digital section. This was true in 2002 as it is today. Leica was bashed when the "minolta lenses " came out. We now see many DMR users using them and coming up with great results...so somehwere it had more to do with the use of the film and the photographer than the lenses. Then came the bashing of the M5..the severe whipping of the M6 especially the M6 TTL..then in the R series..the basshing of the entire line right up to R9...it sort of stopped at the R9 Then the bashing of the Digilux 1, Digilux 2 and you will hear plenty of bashing about the D3 as well. It all boils down to this..somehow people want a "Magic Merlin Camera" right out of the box, you just point and shoot and voila!! Instant professional photographs...you don't need to know anything about photography..because that magic camera is going to do it all for you. If it doesn't ..damn Leica:( The bottom line is this, no matter what camera you have, its up to the photographer to understand how the camera functions, its strengths and weaknesses and how to work within those limitations. Some 6 years ago a 14 year old boy won first prize in the Canadian Geographic.....his camera a.....disposible Fuji film camera..at first they didn't believe him, luckily Mom had kept the receipt and sent a copy to the judges..they were amazed. I found this also in art school, people moaning and complaining about the facilities and the equipment..in the end I found this all was so baseless..its up to you..the artist/photographer and your imagination...you cannot "purchase: creativity or imagination. John Maio Posted November 30, 2006 Author Share #3 Posted November 30, 2006 Yep, we're definitely a whiny bunch of people. Interesting story about the 14 year old. Wonder if he went on to a career in photography... I'd bet that if this thread was about something bad that Leica did, there would be a lot more responses, but alas, its actually praising their responsive tech service people and who wants to hear about anything good Leica does:rolleyes:
blovitch Posted November 30, 2006 Share #4 Posted November 30, 2006 >> I'd bet that if this thread was about something bad that Leica did, there would be a lot more responses, I think that there are numerous threads where people are singing the praises of Leica, even in the digital forum. There have been many complaints, but then at least some of the critiscism has been perfectly valid. Leica is an evocative brand that inspires passion not indifference, and passionate people have powerful emotions. Thats why this forum and its members are so interesting, because it is inspired by something more than just a simple box with a hole in it, flaws and all. -Tim
