rick123 Posted November 29, 2006 Share #1 Posted November 29, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi everyone, As an avid amateur, over the years I have gone from a Polaroid Swinger (loved that camera - I think a prelude to my love of digital photography), to a Ricoh Singlex TLS (sold), to the Nikon Ftn (gone), Nikon F3 (sold), Leica M6 (still own), & Leica D-Lux 2 (still own). For me, I have realized less (in terms of size and ease of use) is more in photography - perhaps why I fell for the rangefinder concept. But before obtaining my D-Lux 2, I still missed so many of life's images because my camera was not with me. But since I got my D-Lux 2, it has been so easy to bring the camera and magnificently capture moments in time. Although I have seriously thought of acquiring the M8 as well, it seems that the D-Lux 2 is so much like the rangefinder I wanted it to be (small, versatile, and sharp) - but with more (little zoom lens and flash) - thus giving me no excuse to miss a moment. Am I thinking too simplistically? Rick

Tenor1 Posted November 29, 2006 Share #2 Posted November 29, 2006 Hi Rick, Are you simplistic or simply prepared to capture a moment in time with the camera? I opt for the second choice. Have you taken any spontaneous shots that you would like to share? I'm waiting for the sudden UFO sighting, lol. Regards, Carlos
Guest malland Posted November 29, 2006 Share #3 Posted November 29, 2006 I'm all for small cameras and love my Ricoh GR-D because of it's ease of use and the excellence of its 28mm-equivalent f/2.4 prime lens, as well as the 21mm-equivalent adapter, which I fiind to be as good as my Leica M-21 ASPH, which itself is a great lens. What I would want is an equallly good small-sensor camera with a 40mm- or 50mm equivalent lens. I looked into at the D-Lux 3 in this respect, but have two probems with it: the camera is not at all as convenient to hold and handle as the GR-D and, at 40mm-50mm-equivalent, the maximum aperture is only to be f/3.9-40, which is not what I'm looking for. —Mitch/London http://www.flickr.com/photos/10268776@N00/

Riley Posted November 30, 2006 Share #5 Posted November 30, 2006 hi Mitch despite the chorus of the foil hat brigade there is an old adage in photography that goes something like the best camera for the job is the one you have with you Riley
