stevelap Posted November 24, 2009 Share #21 Posted November 24, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks Eric. Yes, one of the Hitachi divisions definitely control G-Tech now and it's their drives that are used. I agree that for real security a second RAID (DROBO or other) unit is required. The current price does make the DROBO attractive at the moment (as does freedom to choose drives), although to get eSATA the DROBO S is needed (5-drives as a bonus) which nearly doubles the price. The G-Tech has eSATA as standard (plus Firewire 800 and USB2) but of course it's RAID1 mirror only. Decisions, decisions. I'll also take a look at the brands mentioned by you and Mark. stevelap Posted November 24, 2009 Share #22 Posted November 24, 2009 HIVE Home Page looks very interesting, a sort of upmarket DROBO perhaps? ReadyNAS Pro http://www.netgear.com/Products/Storage/ReadyNASPro.aspx (thanks Mark) too, but it's more than I need.
