stevelap Posted November 12, 2009 Share #21 Posted November 12, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Oh no, not again. I thought we're supposed to have had a paradigm shift with the introduction of the M9. See what Tim Ashley writes: he doesn't even think the S2 should be called a DSLR at all... Oh no, not again.......Manfred chimes in with more doom and gloom chez Leica. Sorry, couldn't resist it;), but your Leica glass has been tending towards the half-empty recently:). Advertisement Posted November 12, 2009 Posted November 12, 2009 Hi stevelap, Take a look here David Farkas' highly anticipated S2 review is up. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Gentleman Villain Posted November 13, 2009 Share #22 Posted November 13, 2009 The S2 is definitely a DSLR....just happens to be the baddest ass DSLR on the planet. An S2 talking to a D3x would sound like Crocodile Dundee telling the street thug, "that's not a knife, this is a knife."

Guest EarlBurrellPhoto Posted November 13, 2009 Share #24 Posted November 13, 2009 An S2 talking to a D3x would sound like Crocodile Dundee telling the street thug, "that's not a knife, this is a knife." Of course in real life the street thug aka D3X would promptly whip out his nine and pump 15 hollowpoints into ol' Croc before he could say "crikey". leicar7 Posted November 13, 2009 Share #25 Posted November 13, 2009 Or, Dundee might whip out his .45 ACP w/ +P JHPs and send the bad dude into orbit. 9mm is a sissy's caliber; always was and still is.

GMB Posted November 14, 2009 Share #27 Posted November 14, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Excellent review. Many thanks to David. Upon reading the review (and notably the remarks about the narrow depth of field), the question occurred to me "Why does the S2 or its lenses don't have image stabilization?". If the goal of the S2 was to create a "mobile" digital MF camera, would it not have made sense to include image stabilization, as this would have greatly helped to shoot hand held and nevertheless achieve a reasonable depth of field at low (=high quality) ISO settings? As far as I know, on a Canon or Nikon you gain about 3 stops with image stabilization. Of course, the simple answer may be that image stabilization for a MF camera is much more difficult and expensive than for a 35mm DSLR. I am also curious to see how the 35 mm lens will perform and whether it permits to obtain images that are sharp from foreground to background. If ever I were to get a medium format system (and I am toying with the idea:)) I would want to use it for landscape.
