jjjjuin Posted November 9, 2009 Author Share #21 Posted November 9, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have an MP and think I might like to add a used M8, but I keep having second thoughts. I haven't been happy with any digital camera I've owned so far. I'm now thinking of a second film body instead. Maybe an M7?? Why did you decide to sell the M8 and go with an MP? We want to hear your story! And for film recommendations, color: Fuji Pro 160C, 400H and 800Z, B&W: Ilford XP2 and Kodak Tri-X. Well, I have a strong feeling that after leica M camera stepped to the digital age, the speed of camera upgrade will boost naturally. From M8 to M9, it barely takes few years. I beg M9.2 M10 and more will come afterword. Buying Leica, for me is not on behalf of buying a camera only. The philosophy of leica means much to me. It's a style. Digital technolagy definitely brings human being more convinience. As a digial camera, you saved the time spend on development. However, My perspective is, many saved time should not be saved, we should spend on it, this is life, life is about how to manage time properly. Again, MP is the philosophy of leica. I somewhere heard of this in this forum. I don't want to miss any beautiful moment in my life as well as the beauty of Leica - MP well, I don't speak english that good so don't mind the screwed language. thanks all. Advertisement Posted November 9, 2009 Posted November 9, 2009 Hi jjjjuin, Take a look here just kicked M8 and will have an MP tmr, anyone cheer for me?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
dpattinson Posted November 9, 2009 Share #22 Posted November 9, 2009 Kevin,I'm curious about David's remark regarding prices, and this was something I was going to post about anyways. I was looking at M7s and lenses this past weekend, and all were cheaper (new) than comparable prices in the States. A new M7 is RMB 26,800 (USD 3,942) compared to B&H's $4,395. I was also looking at a new 35mm Summicron, which was just over $200 less expensive here than from B&H. The RMB prices I'm quoting are from the largest Leica dealer in the Wukesong Photography Market, and include the three year warranty. I also found a pristine second-hand silver/chrome 35mm Summicron, 6-bit coded for just about $2,000. Maybe I should go back and buy it. All the best, Jeff Interesting, I guess when I was there I was looking at second-hand prices which were at the time higher than the prices I was getting in the UK. I did notice that second-hand camera bodies were closer to the UK price than the lenses, but I already have bodies. That 35mm lens price is spot on the price I can get in the UK for an uncoded one, so it's a fair price but not a real bargain. Don't worry, your English is a lot better than my Chinese! Many people here feel the same as you about film photography. Check out this thread which has been on-going for the past year. -Mike
