John.of.Gaunt Posted November 8, 2009 Share #1 Posted November 8, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello, unfortunately I found yesterday in all my images (Leica M9, 35 cron) a small line. The line is going from the middle of the picture to the bottom of the picture. I attached an cropped example. Does anybody know what that could be? Sensor failure? Micro Lenses? Is that a reason to send the camera back? thanks for help J

John.of.Gaunt Posted November 8, 2009 Author Share #2 Posted November 8, 2009 The picture is shot with ISO 640, 1/90 sec, ca. 2,4 aperture. J
thrice Posted November 8, 2009 Share #3 Posted November 8, 2009 Yep I believe that is commonly considered a sensor fault. I've never owned a digital M so maybe someone else with more experience could chime in, but I've seen mention of it and pictures like yours before. chris_tribble Posted November 8, 2009 Share #4 Posted November 8, 2009 This happened on a batch of M8s - I've not seen it on the M9. Leica will fix for free. Get it back to them. Hope you get it back soon... Best
wookchang Posted November 8, 2009 Share #5 Posted November 8, 2009 I am really sorry. Yes, it is a sensor defect, known as a column defect. My steel grey M9 had a same problem and was returned to the dealer. After 4 weeks I am still waiting for a replacement unit. Neither the dealer nor Leica can give me a firm date that I can expect a replacement M9. I hope you don't go through what I have gone through already. Wish you only the best. Wook P.S. I attach cropped portion of the line usually appearing in cuts ISO setting higher than 400 (this one at ISO 1,000).

darkspark Posted November 8, 2009 Share #8 Posted November 8, 2009 what do you mean with: "I hope you don't go through what I have gone through already."... Does sound not very easy to get the problem solved... or? What happend? I think he meant the "wait time" [for a replacement/service] and "not knowing when you are going to get one back"... after 4 weeks... or more
John.of.Gaunt Posted November 8, 2009 Author Share #9 Posted November 8, 2009 What did you mean with inspect? Yes, I had a look on the sensor, but I could not see anything damage. J
