Azor Posted January 13, 2010 Share #21 Posted January 13, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) You are partly right. However there is a DIY kit. Due to the gaps - there is a tiny 1-2mm gap on both doors on the hinged portion. Thats not unacceptable but i guess diff folks have varying opinions on perfection. Did mine in brown lizard skin. Azor http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/digital-forum/109418-she-back-she-leather-i-am-2.html What was involved in the removal on the original material on the doors? Morgan used my camera(s) as the first template for the Digilux 2 and his original concerns were the doors. It expressed that it was a pretty ugly process and that he wouldn't do a "kit." Please let us know how it went for you. I'd be very interested. Thanks, JT
rsolomon Posted January 14, 2010 Share #23 Posted January 14, 2010 when i look on the site it doesn;t appear to say the digilux 2 is a supported camera - am i missing something ? thanks
Azor Posted January 14, 2010 Share #24 Posted January 14, 2010 The stripping of the original rubber covering on the D2 can be done without tools (i did it with bare hands in less than a min). Its also very unlikely u will break the doors unless ur some kinda klutz/gorilla. Stripping out the covering should be done as if removing stubborn double sided tape. Perhaps if Morgan was reluctant - that hinge gap may be the reason rather than the removing of the original cover. The thin 2-3 mm gap on the door is where the hinges are - when i have a spot of time will snap a macro on that. its small and imo doesnt detract too much away from the aesthetics of the leather cover. On the website - there is an option where u can email Morgan to ask for recovering options for unlisted models. He does respond to that.

I understand all about the gap... as I said, I have the first two Digilux 2s that Morgan did. The only reason I'd consider a DIY kit from him is to save the time. His communications gaps are a bit disconcerting.
John Thawley Posted January 14, 2010 Share #26 Posted January 14, 2010 when i look on the site it doesn;t appear to say the digilux 2 is a supported camera - am i missing something ? thanks They weren't supported. I gave him a couple to look at last year and while he wasn't thrilled about the area around the doors (he's really fussy)... they worked out fantastic. I'm guessing he's done a half dozen or so since then. It's a beautiful touch to a great camera. Adds perfectly to the camera's retro styling. Azor Posted January 14, 2010 Share #27 Posted January 14, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) its does take a bit getting used. As i was stripping out the rubber, was thinking "OMG u FOOL WTF are u doing...!!!"" 1 hour later, after the shock of destroying the original cover = "hey this aint half bad at all - i wonder if they have more colors :D" John, I think if u have the same hinge gap - i highly suspect the DIY done right and the manual work will come close to the same finished product. Philippe D. Posted January 19, 2010 Share #28 Posted January 19, 2010 I bought two leather covers for M8 from Morgan on December 11th. Morgan replay right the next day that "(my) envelope will arrive before Christmas". Nothing arrived till today. I'm quite anxious about this shipment as I got this morning something posted at USPS on January 11th from Brooklyn-NY.

Philippe D. Posted February 1, 2010 Share #30 Posted February 1, 2010 Some news about my cameraleather covering. Morgan did send the envelope and said it will arrive before Christmas. Unfortunately it was probably lost, as well as other shipping to Belgium, France, Sweden and Taiwan. Morgan did answer quickly to all my eMails and he send another envelope with the two coverings for M8 on Thursday last week by USPS Express Mail International, which I received promptly just today. So far so good, and Thanks to Morgan for his good care. Just a small disappoinment was that no covering was foreseen for the M8 grip. Cheers.
