wparsonsgisnet Posted November 28, 2006 Share #1 Posted November 28, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) I posted this in the 30x40 thread, but it got lost (right?). I am interested in setting that others use on their printers. I always use my Epson (currently a 2200) at the highest number of dots when I print final output. When deciding on a PPI value I choose one that will divide evenly into the 1440 or 2880 of the printer DPI. I was making this choice based on not having to interpolate as a result of choosing a number that gives me a "left over." So I use 180 or 360 rather than 300 or some other number with the wrong factor. Is this sensible, or am I overlooking the fact that the printer is having to do math anyway no matter if I choose an even divider? Thanks for any clarification. Advertisement Posted November 28, 2006 Posted November 28, 2006 Hi wparsonsgisnet, Take a look here dpi setting on inkjet printer? . I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
mat_mcdermott Posted November 28, 2006 Share #2 Posted November 28, 2006 I too have a 2200 and generally print at 300dpi and have been perfectly happy with the results. Perhaps I could eke out a slightly better print using a dpi which divides evenly into 1440 or 2880, but to my eye it's a matter of splitting hairs. I also always print at 1440; after doing tests on 8.5x11 and 13x19 paper using a number of different images the only thing thing that printing at 2880 did better than 1440 was increasing ink consumption. davidada Posted November 28, 2006 Share #3 Posted November 28, 2006 Hi You got it right either 180 or 360 and it really is splitting hairs but why not!
roberth Posted November 28, 2006 Share #4 Posted November 28, 2006 If you can see split hairs in your shots then I'd say you have a mighty fine method right now
Jack_Flesher Posted November 29, 2006 Share #5 Posted November 29, 2006 On the older UC ink printers, I found essentially no detectable difference between 300 and 360, but could see an advantage to 240 over 180. On my K3 ink printers, I can see a slight edge to 360 over 300, and hardly any difference between 180 and 240, so I routinely use either 360 or 180 with K3. Generally speaking, but not always, I use 360 up to 24"x and 180 for anything larger...
