richam Posted November 3, 2009 Share #4 Posted November 3, 2009 I had the same problem with my M8. Sent an email to info@leica-camera.com, and had it resolved in a day or so.
khiromu Posted November 3, 2009 Share #5 Posted November 3, 2009 Yup, I had the same problem. I purchased mine new in June and tried to register but the web site said invalid. So I sent an email to Leica NJ and they have fixed it in a few days. I also had a problem when ordering two filters, but Leica NJ talked with Leica Germany and solve the problem... I was told that I need to show a "warranty card"... Hiromu
wda Posted November 3, 2009 Share #6 Posted November 3, 2009 ...Germany and solve the problem... I was told that I need to show a "warranty card"... Hiromu I think that is normal practice. I merely emailed a photocopy of mine which was accepted.

gfspencer Posted November 3, 2009 Share #8 Posted November 3, 2009 I bought an M8 and registered it with the number on the box (or maybe the number was on the paperwork). Then I discovered that the camera actually had another number. I need to get that straightened out because someone might have had a problem registering their camera. agreenspan Posted November 3, 2009 Share #9 Posted November 3, 2009 The same thing happened to me in May. Just call Leica. I called Leica in NJ and they contacted Germany. They said that the number needed to be "freed". The numbers may have been used in the past for other Leica products. Once they clear the number, then it works fine..... then you just have to wait forever to get your two free UV/IR filters... Stephen.
jjjjuin Posted November 4, 2009 Author Share #10 Posted November 4, 2009 thanks for all above. I like the saying 'wait forever'.

A lot of people don't realize that a 'little' thing like that can cascade into a big problem for others. The serial number is really the only record Leica has of the camera, and they do keep better track of it than a lot of companies.
