bussta Posted November 1, 2009 Share #1 Posted November 1, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) quick question, how much smaller is the M7 compared to the M8? and is it noticable? is it any lighter than the M8? Have been playing around with a friends M8 recently and wondered if the M7 is more comfortable to hold in one hand?

Have been playing around with a friends M8 recently and wondered if the M7 is more comfortable to hold in one hand? I use both. It seems like the M7 and M8 are about the same height, length and weight (close enough I don't notice a difference). The M7 is definitely noticeably thinner, and feels better to my hand. Have been playing around with a friends M8 recently and wondered if the M7 is more comfortable to hold in one hand? Same height and width and weight, but the M7 is about 3mm thinner. Many, probably most people find the film Ms more comfortable or secure to hold. IMHO this is only partly due to the thickness but also to the way the controls on the back of the M8-9 force the camera to be held differently, while the M7 allows a more natural grip. In addition the wind lever on the M7 provides a useful comfort factor.

I was going to say that I thought it would be handled differently, I borrow a friends M8 and was concious about the way I carried it because of the screen, even though it was a 8.2 with saphire glass I was still concerned about scratching it with my zip on my jacket etc and putting it down on it's back. I have an M8, use a plastic film screen protector and never worry about scratching it. I can't speak for the sapphire screen cover on the M8.2, but after two years of clumsy wear (I tend to bash it into the edges of doors, tables etc.) the sapphire on my wristwatch is still unmarked. Ted Lemon Posted November 5, 2009 Share #6 Posted November 5, 2009 I have M8 and M7. The M7 is smaller as others have pointed out but the big thing for me is it feels more 'organic' - a better fit in the hand, film loading with bottom plate more logical vs M8 card/battery loading through same, on/off controls don't slip...could go on.... I have also been using a local cheapo film processor who does a better job than my local pro lab which means I get a developed film strip (for my Nikon scanner) and a cd with jpegs for not a lot of £££. I do love the ease of use (ISO flexibilty, speed of post processing etc.) of my M8 world and I use it for all my pro work (i.e.weddings) but given the choice for non-pro work the M7 wins every time.
